FAQs

Some Questions

Not necessarily — it all depends on what you’re looking for.

If you’re chartering The Albatroz, our experience shows that 3 nights onboard is usually enough to explore the stunning Algarve coast, or even venture into Spanish waters, such as the Gulf of Cádiz. Longer charters only really make sense if you’re planning to sail up the Guadalquivir River to Seville or to visit Gibraltar. Otherwise, 3 days are perfect to enjoy the coast, with two unforgettable nights on board.

For charters on Skipper Portugal or Majestic II, a longer booking is usually only justified if you’d like to have the boat at your disposal in the Marina de Vilamoura, especially without hiring a crew. These boats offer flexibility for short or extended stays.

For a day charter, any of our boats are a fantastic choice. Whether it’s cruising, relaxing or playing with our water toys, we always have a lot to offer for an unforgettable experience.

Technically? No, tipping is not mandatory.

But if you’d like to show appreciation for the crew’s effort, service, and that extra mile we always try to deliver… a tip is always welcome and warmly appreciated.

Now, if you ask me — I’m the captain of The Albatroz — I always feel like saying YES, absolutely! 😄

In all seriousness, tips usually range between 5% to 10% of the charter value, depending on your satisfaction. But again, it’s entirely at your discretion. Your smile at the end of the trip is already a great reward — though a little extra never hurts the crew morale!

Yes — in Portuguese waters, having the correct certification is mandatory to operate a bareboat charter. You must hold valid licenses that allow you to navigate in inshore, coastal, or offshore waters, depending on where you intend to sail.

While experience is certainly important, without the appropriate certification, it is not legally possible to rent a boat bareboat. In that case, a professional skipper or crew must be hired to accompany you on your charter.

Generally, no. When we provide a quote for your charter, we ask about your preferred route and any services or extras you’d like onboard. Once that’s clear, we include all applicable taxes, fees, and commissions in the final price — so there are no surprises.

However, there are a couple of exceptions:

  • If you’re on a bareboat charter and decide to dock at a marina other than the boat’s home port, the local marina may charge you a separate mooring fee.

  • If you request an additional service during the trip that wasn’t originally discussed or included in the quote, a supplementary fee might apply.

But under normal circumstances, everything is covered in your booking — no hidden costs.
